Cottage Workshop Shed

Shed Distance From Fence, House, Hedge, etc.

Cottage Workshop shed rear (flat top) wall must be at least 18" from a fence, house, or hedge. This space is required to be able to install the shed. The sides (gable peak) walls we are able to install within a couple of inches.

If you are concerned about setbacks, please contact your local building department. The required setback bylaw is typically at least 24" from your property line, but this can be more or less even within different neighborhoods of a city or town.

Wood Floor or Concrete Pad?

Is your shed being installed with a wooden floor or on a pre-existing concrete pad?

Shed Site Photo

Please attach a photo of the proposed shed installation site. If you are able to mark the approximate footprint for the shed using sticks or rocks or whatever is handy that would also be very helpful. Please also let us know if the spot has a large slope or any other barriers that might make it difficult to construct the shed.

Additional Pavers and Double Block Posts

Included in your installation price is levelling up to 8" which includes a set number of concrete blocks based on the size of your shed. If installing on a patio, driveway or gravel bed we will use pavers instead of raised blocks at the installers discretion. If the slope of your install site exceeds the included 8", we are still able to install the shed, but there will be added costs to install using additional pavers, or double block posts as needed. The following costs will be added to your final invoice if required during installation:

  • Additional Pavers : $8 / each
  • Double Block Posts: $50 / each

Important Concrete Pad Information

It is critical that your concrete pad is both level and square for the shed to be constructed correctly. Many concrete contractors will want to add a small slope to your pad so please make sure to mention that it must be level and square with no slope to ensure your new shed can be built properly. If your pad is already poured or pre-existing, please ensure that it is level and square.

If you have any concerns about if your concrete pad will work please email us at sales@shedinaday.com or call the office at 905-592-2040.

Please note: There will be a $250 fee (plus additional delivery fee) if we cannot complete the shed and need to return due to the shed site not being ready or an unworkable concrete pad on your install date.

See below our recommended concrete pad sizes. If the pad is larger than our recommended size that is not a problem.

Sill Plate Gasket Seal

Our sill plate gasket seal is designed to protect the shed from water coming in between the pressure treated bottom sill plate and the concrete pad. It includes both a foam gasket and we also caulk the base of the pad using a sealant. If you currently do not have this upgrade on your order and would like to add it please email us at sales@shedinaday.com or call the office at 905-592-2040 and we can add it to the order for you. Please note if your pad is stamped concrete then sometimes it is harder to fully seal the sill plate.

Concrete Pad Photo

Please attach a photo of your concrete pad. If the pad is not yet poured please disregard, we will ask for this on the form closer to your install date.

Door Location(s)

Please verify the door location(s) are correct on your invoice. The door location can be found in the description of the shed kit on your invoice. In our shed description the first number is the wall with the doors. For example on a " Gable Shed 8'x12' " the doors will be on the 8' front. If you selected the option to move the doors to another location please verify this is correct; this information can be found lower on your invoice. Also, verify that if you have added any extra doors to your shed that the location on the invoice for the additional doors is correct; this information is also further down your invoice. If your door locations are not correct or unclear, it is very important to email sales@shedinaday.com or call the office at 905-592-2040.

Shed Painting

If You Have Ordered Shed Painting

For shed painting you can select any colour of Benjamin Moore Exterior Paint. You may choose a colour in person at a Benjamin Moore store front location or via Benjamin Moore’s website online. Please note, when selecting a paint colour online they may vary slightly depending on your computer monitors calibration settings. By selecting the paint colour in store you will likely get a more accurate colour selection without any colour variance. Please note, any code with, “CSP” is an interior only paint code and will not work as a selection for our sheds. We paint the exterior of the shed with Benjamin Moore Premium Exterior Paint in Satin Enamel.

Benjamin Moore online paint selections link here: https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-ca/colour-overview/find-your-colour

If you have not yet given us your paint colour choice, we will need you to email us back your paint colour selection to sales@shedinaday.com or attach it to the additional comments on this form if you have it now. If you have selected to have your shed painted in one colour we will need that colour choice. If you have selected a paint job with white trim, we will use our stock white trim colour, we just need your choice for wall colour. If you have ordered a shed with custom trim colour we will need both the wall colour and trim colour. We simply need you to email us the Benjamin Moore paint name & code [for example: Benjamin Moore, “Symphony Blue (2060-10)”]. Upon painting the exterior of your shed we save any remaining paint and return the rest to you on your scheduled date for touch ups if needed down the road.

If You Have Not Ordered Shed Painting

The exterior of the shed needs to be painted. We recommend using Benjamin Moore Aura or Regal Premium Exterior Latex Paint with Primer since this covers the exterior of the shed with only one or two coats. This helps to ensure a flattering finish and seals the wood. The wall paneling is already primed. The shed should ideally be painted within 90 days of install.

Do I Need To Be Home For Installation?

You do not need to be home for the installation. Many of our sheds are installed with nobody home. As long as we have access to your driveway, the path to the backyard is clear, and the location of the shed is marked out along with the door location, and access to power we can complete the installation. Please also ensure that on our form closer to install you attach clear pictures and instructions for the driveway, path, shed location, and window / accessory placements. As long as our installers have all of the information needed to complete the install we can do it entirely while you are away.

Access to Electrical Outlet

For electrical power the installers will simply need access to an exterior plug that they can plug our extension cord into. We have over 200 feet of extension cords to run to the shed. Please test the plug to make sure it is working. If you do not have an exterior plug, please run an extension cord out your back door so it is available for the installers. If there any issues with access to power, please email us at sales@shedinaday.com or call the office 905-592-2040.

All Gable shed side (flat top) walls must be at least 18" from a fence, house, or hedge. This space is required to be able to install the shed. The rear (gable peak) wall we are able to install within a couple of inches.

"Before Your Installation Form"

Closer to your installation date (approximately 1 week before), we will be following up with another form. This form will go through more details of the installation and ask some more questions which will be forwarded to the install team directly. It is important that you fill this form out in detail and also attach all requested photos to ensure that the installation goes smoothly. These will be the only photos and information that will be going directly to the installers. This form will also ensure that you do not need to be home for your installation. Items on this form include:

  • - Driveway and parking photos.
  • - Photos of access to your yard or install site (pathway, gates, etc.).
  • - Removing any gate headers or obstructions.
